Privacy Policy

Last updated: June 3, 2026

Seez’n, a French simplified joint-stock company (SASU) registered in France, with its registered office at 21 Rue de Longchamp, 75116 Paris, France (“Seez’n”, “we”, “us”, “our”), operates the Seez’n mobile application (the “App”) and the marketing website at seezn.io (the “Website”) (together, the “Service”).

This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, share, and protect your personal information when you use the Service. We aim to comply with applicable data protection laws, including the EU General Data Protection Regulation (“GDPR”), the UK GDPR where applicable, the California Consumer Privacy Act as amended by the California Privacy Rights Act (“CCPA/CPRA”), and other laws that may apply based on where you live.

By using the Service, you acknowledge the data practices described in this Policy. Where we rely on consent (for example, optional notifications or health-related inputs), you may withdraw that consent as described below without affecting the lawfulness of processing before withdrawal.

1. Lawful basis and transparency

We process personal data on the following legal bases, depending on the activity:

  • Contract: to provide the Service (for example, account access, your tree's HP, syncing your progress, subscriptions).
  • Consent: where required for optional permissions (for example, push notifications and Apple Screen Time authorization), and for information that may reveal your physical or mental health when you choose to use mood logging, reflections, and related features (see Section 2(b)).
  • Legitimate interests: to secure the Service, prevent abuse, and maintain reliability, balanced against your rights.
  • Legal obligation: to comply with applicable laws (for example, tax or accounting retention for purchases).

This Policy is available on seezn.io/privacy-policy and in the App (for example, from Profile or legal links). We do not use your data for third-party behavioral advertising.

2. Information we collect

We collect only the information needed to operate and improve the Service.

a. Account registration and authentication

  • Data: email address; authentication identifiers (such as a Firebase user ID); display name (if you provide one or receive one from Sign in with Apple or Google); basic login metadata (for example, account creation and last login timestamps).
  • Methods: email and password; Sign in with Apple; Sign in with Google (where enabled); email magic link sign-in.
  • Purpose: create and manage your account, authenticate you, and secure access.
  • Provider: Google Firebase Authentication.

We do not store your password in our own databases when you use Firebase Authentication; session restoration uses Firebase’s secure mechanisms on your device.

b. Profile, habits, and user-entered content

Depending on how you use the App, we collect and store:

  • Mantras / values you define in exercises.
  • To-dos (content, completion state, dates, ordering).
  • Onboarding inputs: goals, triggers, high-risk moments, sleep window preferences, and optional Tree’s Will email addresses (up to five recipients you choose).
  • Mood and emotional map data: emotion type, context, intensity, optional reflection text, and timestamps.
  • Focus sessions, sleep protection settings, dopamine detox progress, daily challenges, activity favorites, and related progress fields.
  • Tree Health Points history: timestamps, point changes, reasons (for example, mood log, todo, passive scrolling penalty, focus session), and short descriptions shown in your history.

Purpose: provide habit-building, accountability, personalization, and history across devices.
Storage: synced to Google Firebase Cloud Firestore and mirrored on your device (AsyncStorage) for offline use.
Provider: Google Firebase (Firestore).

Health-related information. Mood check-ins, reflections, triggers, and similar inputs may reveal your physical or mental health. Under GDPR Article 9, this is special category data. We process it only when you voluntarily provide it in the App, on the basis of your explicit consent:

  1. Information: this Policy (and in-app descriptions of mood/reflection features) explains that this data is stored in your account, synced via Firebase, and used only to provide those features - not for advertising.
  2. Affirmative action: by creating an account and using the Service, you confirm you have read this Policy. By saving a mood log, reflection, or comparable health-related entry, you explicitly consent to our processing of that entry for the purposes in this Policy.
  3. Withdrawal: you may stop providing new entries, delete content where the App allows, or delete your account (Profile → delete account), which removes stored mood and reflection data as described in Section 5. You may also contact contact@seezn.io.

This data is not used for advertising and is not sold.

c. Screen Time monitoring and Tree penalties (iOS)

Seez’n uses Apple’s Family Controls / Screen Time APIs (Device Activity and Managed Settings) on your device to monitor only the apps you select and to apply blocks when you exceed your configured daily limit.

  • On your device: Apple’s frameworks process usage toward thresholds you configure. Seez’n stores an opaque app selection token (not a readable list of app names in our cloud) and receives threshold/block signals through our on-device extension (via a shared App Group).
  • What we sync to our servers: data needed to run the Tree system and sync across sessions - for example, your selected-apps configuration token, penalty/block event timestamps, tree HP updates, and related settings (such as whether passive monitoring is enabled). We do not receive Apple’s full Screen Time database or a minute-by-minute feed of all apps on your phone.
  • Purpose: calculate Tree penalties and rewards, enforce blocks you configured, and keep your Tree state consistent across sessions or devices.
  • Legal basis: contract (Service delivery) and, for Screen Time access, your consent through Apple’s authorization flow.

d. Subscriptions and purchases

  • Data: subscription status and entitlements; purchase and transaction identifiers needed to verify and restore purchases.
  • Purpose: provide paid features and manage subscription status.
  • Providers: Apple (App Store billing on iOS) and RevenueCat (subscription management). We do not store full payment card numbers; payments are handled by Apple.

e. Push notifications

  • Data: notification permission status and device push token(s).
  • Purpose: send Service-related notifications you enable (for example, tree HP penalties and reminders).
  • Providers: Expo Push Notification Service and Apple Push Notification service (APNs).

f. Tree’s Will emails (optional)

If you enable Tree’s Will, you provide email addresses of people you choose. When your tree’s HP reaches zero, our systems may send them an email that your tree has “died,” using your account email address as the label in the message.

  • Purpose: accountability feature you configure.
  • Provider: Brevo (transactional email). Recipients’ addresses are stored in your Firestore user profile until you remove them or delete your account.

g. AI activity suggestions (optional)

If you use the in-app feature to generate activity ideas:

  • Data sent to OpenAI (via our server): time of day; titles of activities already on your screen (to avoid duplicates); and your mantras/values (if you have set them) - not your mood logs, photos, or Screen Time data.
  • Purpose: generate up to five alternative activity suggestions (rate-limited per account per day).
  • Provider: OpenAI. OpenAI’s policies apply to their processing.
  • Storage: generated suggestions are returned to the App; we store a daily usage counter server-side for rate limiting, not the full prompt history.

h. Diagnostics and analytics

  • App: we do not integrate third-party advertising analytics and do not collect the Identifier for Advertisers (IDFA) for ad measurement. We do not sell personal information or share it for cross-context behavioral advertising.
  • Operational logs: hosting providers may process technical logs (for example, IP address, request metadata, errors) for security and operations. Firebase/Cloud Functions logs may include user IDs in error diagnostics; access is restricted.

i. Website (seezn.io only)

  • Data: if you contact us or subscribe to updates (if offered), we may collect your email and any information you send. Basic technical data (for example, browser type, pages visited) may be processed by our host or CDN for security and performance.
  • Cookies: the marketing Website uses minimal cookies necessary for operation. If we add non-essential analytics or marketing cookies, we will request consent where required by law.

j. What we do not collect

  • Precise geolocation (GPS).
  • Photos, camera images, face data, or biometric identifiers.
  • Full Screen Time histories from Apple - only the signals and account data described above.

3. Purpose limitation and data minimization

We collect and use personal data only for the purposes in this Policy. We do not sell your personal information. We do not use mood, reflection, or health-related inputs for advertising or commercial profiling.

4. Data accuracy and security

Accuracy: you can update much of your information in the App (for example, to-dos, mantras, mood logs, monitored apps, notification settings). For account email or other issues, contact contact@seezn.io.

Security: we use reasonable technical and organizational measures (for example, encryption in transit, access controls, and least-privilege access to production systems). Firestore user data for the App is hosted in the EU (eur3) region. Some processors still operate globally as described in Section 10. No system is perfectly secure.

5. Storage limitation (retention)

Category Retention
Account data (email, user ID, display name) Until account deletion
User content (moods, todos, mantras, onboarding, settings) Until account deletion or withdrawal of consent for health-related features
Tree / Screen Time-related settings and penalty history Until account deletion or your deletion request
Tree’s Will recipient emails Until you remove them or delete your account
Subscription / transaction records Duration of subscription plus applicable statutory accounting period
Push tokens While notifications are enabled, then deleted or invalidated
AI rate-limit counters Rolling daily records
Server/technical logs Limited period for security and debugging (typically up to 12 months unless longer is required)

When retention ends, we delete or irreversibly anonymize data, subject to legal exceptions. Account deletion: you can delete your account from the App’s Profile settings. This deletes your Firestore user document and subcollections (todos, emotional logs, Tree Health Points history, favorites) and your Firebase Authentication account.

6. Privacy by design

We embed privacy considerations by:

  • collecting only data needed for tree HP and stated features;
  • keeping Screen Time processing on-device where Apple provides it, and syncing only what the Tree system needs;
  • limiting internal access on a need-to-know basis;
  • giving you controls (selected apps, notifications, Tree’s Will recipients, account deletion).

7. Controllers and processors

Seez’n is the data controller for personal data processed through the Service. We use processors including:

Processor Role
Google (Firebase) Authentication, Firestore database, Cloud Functions hosting
Apple Sign in with Apple, App Store payments, Screen Time / Family Controls on device, APNs
Google Sign in with Google (where enabled)
RevenueCat Subscription and entitlement management
Expo Push notification delivery infrastructure
Brevo Transactional email (Tree’s Will notifications)
OpenAI Optional AI activity idea generation (server-side API calls)

8. Your rights (GDPR / UK GDPR)

Depending on your location, you may have the right to:

  • be informed (this Policy);
  • access your personal data;
  • rectify inaccurate data;
  • erase your data (including via account deletion);
  • restrict or object to certain processing;
  • data portability where applicable;
  • withdraw consent where processing is based on consent (for example, notifications, Screen Time authorization, or health-related inputs - by ceasing use, deleting entries where available, or deleting your account).

To exercise these rights, email contact@seezn.io. We may need to verify your identity. We respond within one month where GDPR applies, or as required by local law.

You may lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority - for example, the CNIL in France ( cnil.fr) or the ICO in the UK ( ico.org.uk).

9. California privacy notice (CCPA / CPRA)

This section applies to California residents and supplements the Policy.

Categories collected (last 12 months):

CCPA category Examples
Identifiers Email, user ID, device push tokens
Commercial information Subscription status, transaction IDs
Internet or electronic network activity In-app events related to tree HP; penalty timestamps
Sensitive personal information Mood/reflection content you enter that may reveal mental health

We do not sell personal information and do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising as defined by the CCPA/CPRA. California residents may request to know, delete, correct, or limit use of sensitive personal information where applicable, without discrimination for exercising rights. Contact contact@seezn.io.

10. International data transfers

We are established in the European Union (France). Firestore user data for the App is stored in the EU (eur3). Some processors may process data outside the EEA/UK (for example, the United States), including Google, OpenAI, RevenueCat, Expo, and Brevo. Where required, we rely on appropriate safeguards such as European Commission adequacy decisions, EU Standard Contractual Clauses (2021), and the UK International Data Transfer Agreement or UK Addendum where applicable. Contact contact@seezn.io for more information.

11. Data breach reporting

If a personal data breach is likely to pose a risk to your rights and freedoms, we will notify the competent supervisory authority within 72 hours where required and inform affected users without undue delay, in line with applicable law.

12. How we use your information (summary)

  • operate tree HP, Screen Time-based accountability, and related App features;
  • authenticate you and secure your account;
  • manage subscriptions and entitlements;
  • send notifications you enable;
  • sync data across sessions and devices;
  • send optional Tree’s Will emails you configure;
  • generate optional AI activity ideas;
  • comply with law and protect the Service from fraud or abuse.

13. Sharing your information

We share personal information only:

  • with service providers listed in Section 7, under contract and for Service delivery;
  • with Tree’s Will recipients you designate (only the transactional email described above);
  • when required by law or to protect rights, safety, and integrity of the Service;
  • in connection with a business transfer (merger, acquisition, or asset sale), with notice where required.

We do not sell personal information.

14. Children and minors

The Service is not directed to children.

  • If you are in France, you must be at least 15 to use the App, or have verifiable parental consent where French law allows a lower age with authorization.
  • In other countries, the minimum age is generally 16 in the EU/EEA (unless your country allows 13-15 with parental consent) or 13 in the United States for COPPA purposes.

We do not knowingly collect personal data from children below the applicable minimum age without verifiable parental or guardian consent. If we learn that we collected such data without proper consent, we will delete it promptly. Parents or guardians may contact contact@seezn.io. The Service does not serve behavioral advertising to anyone, including minors.

15. Updates to this Policy

We may update this Policy to reflect changes to the Service, processors, or law. We will post the updated version on seezn.io/privacy-policy with a new “Last updated” date. For material changes, we may provide additional notice in the App where required.
